In 2020, the Town of Brunswick commissioned a public transit study to investigate updating the “Brunswick Explorer” bus service which had been operating, mostly unchanged, since 2010.
The first 41 pages of the Brunswick Transit Study’s Final Report provide a summary of the study. The remaining pages contain supporting documentation.
While the previous service had been a “flex-route”, the study found a fully-scheduled city-style “fixed-route” would provide better service to riders.
As a result of the study, the Brunswick Link was created. Featuring:
- more stop locations
- consistent hourly times at each stop
- more runs each day
- many stops on each run serving Brunswick Landing
- starts earlier and ends later in the day
- AM and PM commuter express service between Brunswick Station and Brunswick Landing to connect with the METRO BREEZ
- in/out service between the Cedar Street Park & Ride facility and Brunswick Station
To serve riders unable to access a regular bus stop due to a disability, complementary Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) demand-response/curb-to-curb service, operates within ¾ mile of the Brunswick Link route. Riders must be determined as eligible for this service.
The Brunswick Link is operated by Western Maine Transportation Services, Inc. (WMTS). WMTS is a non-profit 501(c)(3) regional transportation corporation, which operates additional public transit services in Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford Counties. WMTS was created by statute in 1976 and appointed by MaineDOT to provide public transportation. The WMTS headquarters is at 76 Merrow Road, Auburn, ME.
